I passed by the basketball court one day, wondering about how great a basketball player can be. As I saw some boys shooting hoops, I began to picture myself doing lay-ups, cross-overs, dribbling, passing, playing the game all cool guys play. I sighed and walked passed them with awe.
I was 12. I did not know about anything. It was a dream for me to play basketball. Every time I see people bouncing the ball, shooting hoops, I felt my heartbeat follow the pace of the basketball naturally. I did not know why and how, but I knew I want to play basketball.
I started to try playing basketball. I bought a ball to train at the nearby basketball court. It was kind of hard to control the ball, even more difficult to shoot through the hoop. I did not want to give up just because of the difficulty. Whenever I have free time, I would start bouncing the ball. The more frequent I play basketball, the better I get. Slowly, I was nearer to becoming a basketball player.
One fine morning, I noticed a poster taped to the walls of the toilet. It was like it jumped out and called my name. It was about some trials to join the school basketball team. My heartbeat increased rapidly as I note down the trials venue and time. I did well for the trials. As a result, I made it to the basketball team. I trained very hard but my standard was not as good as some of the experienced basketball players.
As the competition arrives, the basketball coach had to choose some players to participate. It was then when I was kicked out the school team.
It was also then I developed the passion for basketball. I felt a sudden joy as soon as I shoot the ball into the net. The sound and the feelings of the ball going through the net are just fantastic and special.
