Firstly, the photographer chose to use the theme of black and white to convey the message that during the period of war, it was sad and gloomy. The effect of color actually gives the viewer a sense of happiness and people will feel cheerful viewing the colored picture; in direct opposite, a colorless picture shows and tells the reader that the picture is sad and there is no color, no excitement or happiness in the lives of the people. It is a way of telling the viewer the general atmosphere of the picture or photograph. In this photograph, there is a man who is injured and pleading the soldiers to spare his life, where two men are actually helping and trying to save the man from death. It is a moment of anguish for the person who is hurt and is going to pass on sooner or later. The photographer, by capturing this photo, is trying to tell the public the harm of war and to a certain extent, trying to do his part in advising people to stop fighting. The mood is very miserable and as the wounded man pleads for his life to be spared. The man is crying because he knows he will be killed but he still hopes to live on as he is innocent. The cruelty in man is also shown in this picture as the ignorance of the soldiers as they ignore the man’s pleads and continues the process of the disastrous war. In conclusion, the writer is trying to convey the sad emotions and miserable mood and pitiful atmosphere through the picture of the man pleading for his life to be spared.

Dear Mr. Akio Komori,
I am Khor Wei Sean from Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore. The purpose of writing this letter is to you after this disastrous Japan earthquake.
First of all, I would like to tell you that this earthquake is a natural disaster, so it is not anyone’s fault that the earthquake happened. On the brighter note, I think you should be thankful and be optimistic on the fact you and your family is safe and sound, although it is inevitable to suffer and lose in this saddening event.
I know you may be sad because Japan is a developed country and this disaster had destructed almost all of the developments made. But, life moves on nevertheless. You cannot stop here at this crucial moment. Instead, you should move on and try to stand up strong again. I believe Japan is a country that can rebuild what was destructed and stand tall again. Rest assured that we will be there to support Japan to redevelop their country.
There are already a few steps taken by the government to rebuild the country. I believe that the country, with the efficient and effective government and the support by us, Japan will stand up where they slipped and fall. My school has already been raising funds to aid Japan in this disaster. Many other schools in different countries are also doing the same thing. With such an efficient rate of fund raising, I believe and hope that Japan can develop rapidly and overcome this challenge.
Lastly, I know many insults and sarcastic remarks have been made on the internet, but this is not the time to be demoralized and feel sad about insignificant small matters. Furthermore, those are just people who speak regardless of their language and not caring about others’ feelings. They are just being mean and heartless to further worsen your pain. These are people who find happiness from others’ pain and suffering. The previous generation of Japanese may have treated some of them badly, but they have no right to treat the current generation of Japanese the same way. You guys are innocent people who do not deserve such inhumane treatment especially after so much pain already.
Life is suffering. Suffering in life is inevitable to mankind. Just accept the truth and move on.
